Sweden was in shock after the mass shootings last week.
So was I, so was Helena my Swedish friend here and, I'm sure, so were those of you who thought of Sweden as a very safe country. Which it was, the third safest in the world. Not sure if this shooting will change that.
I called Helena, we talked, but couldn't really help each other much.
This was just too much to absorb.
The mass shooting, which claimed 11 lives, including that of the gunman, was the worst in modern Swedish history.
The school where it happened and where the gunman had attended, was also attended by immigrants, from Syria, Iran, and Somalia, among others.
Seven of the victims were women.
I just want to say that I'm so, so sorry, so sad, so upset first of all that this happened, then that something like this could happen in Sweden.
I'm sure Swedish laws will change, gun control will be tightened, but who can change the hate needed to execute innocent people, mostly women in this way.
Can you imagine what some of these people left behind, say in Syria?
Can you imagine how very safe they must have felt in Sweden?
Incomprehensible - driven by hatred, or fear, or lack or understanding, who knows? Very sad indeed.
ReplyDeleteSad day. When they were feeling safe.
ReplyDeleteIt was so very sad to see this. As Jabblog say incomprehensible.
ReplyDeleteLet's all spread a little kindness.
All the best Jan
Unfortunately and sadly the world has become an unsafe place and bad things happen everywhere.
ReplyDeleteI believe the farther people get away from God the worse it gets.

ReplyDeleteThe poison of America is creeping across the world - in all sorts of ways. My heart goes out to all Swedes, for this is surely an abberation. YAM xx
Oh MY!!! I had not heard anything about this! Maybe because the news has been concentrated on the Super Bowl? I always think of Sweden as being so peaceful. I guess these school shootings are just going worldwide.
